A Case Study in Event Apparel Identity Systems
The International Waendel Walk is a long-established public walking event delivered by North Northamptonshire Council, attracting over 3,000 participants annually.
As an inclusive, community-led event, it brings together individuals, families, and walking groups across multiple routes and distances.
The objective was to produce official event apparel that reflected the scale, credibility, and community significance of the event.
The Challenge
North Northamptonshire Council approached The Printwear Company to produce official event merchandise.
However, an initial review identified critical issues with the existing artwork:
- Low-resolution logo files unsuitable for garment production
- Inconsistent visual execution across materials
- Poor legibility at scale and distance
- No structured identity for apparel application
The existing logo lacked the clarity and technical integrity required for print, resulting in compromised output and reduced perceived value.
This was not simply a production issue.
There was no production-ready identity system to support apparel at scale.

The Solution
Delivered through Brandworx® and Printworx®
Following review, we proposed our Logo Artwork Service as the entry point, ensuring the identity could function effectively before moving into production.

Delivered in partnership with North Northamptonshire Council, the project required a structured approach to ensure consistency across a high-volume public event.
Brandworx® (Identity System Development)
A refined, production-ready identity was developed to support both visual clarity and real-world application.
- Rebuilt logo artwork for clean, scalable reproduction
- Improved structure and legibility for garment use
- Simplified visual hierarchy to enhance recognition
- Developed consistent formats for use across apparel and print
The objective was not aesthetic redesign, but functional clarity.
The outcome was a usable identity system capable of performing across event environments.
Printworx® (Production Infrastructure)
With a production-ready identity in place, garments were delivered through a controlled production process.
- High-resolution print execution for clarity and durability
- Consistent placement across all garments
- Garment selection aligned with event use and wearability
- Reliable output across volume production
This ensured the improved identity translated directly into high-quality, consistent apparel.
The Design Approach
The approach focused on clarity, simplicity, and function.
The refined event mark was designed to:
- remain legible at distance
- reproduce cleanly across different garment types
- maintain consistency across varying applications
Every decision was guided by how the identity would perform on garments, in motion, and at scale.
This is where most event branding fails.
Designs are created for screens, not for real-world use.
The Outcome
The project established a clear and structured identity for the International Waendel Walk, enabling consistent application across apparel and supporting materials.
Delivered through Brandworx® and Printworx®, the outcome provided:
- A production-ready logo system for ongoing use
- Improved clarity and recognition across garments
- Consistent visual output across event materials
- Increased perceived value of official merchandise
- A scalable foundation for future event iterations
- Improved perceived value of official event merchandise
- Supporting a council-led event with over 3,000 participants
Most importantly, it created a repeatable framework for how event apparel can be delivered with consistency and control.
What This Means for Event Organisers
Event apparel is often treated as an afterthought.
In reality, it is one of the most visible expressions of your event.
Without a structured approach, organisers typically face:
- inconsistent branding
- poor print outcomes
- reduced merchandise value
- unnecessary production issues
When approached through a system, event apparel becomes:
- clear
- scalable
- commercially viable
- aligned with the event’s identity
